Moving to Denmark

If you have moved to Helsingør from abroad, you will have to notify your arrival to Helsingør Municipality.

There are a few requirements you should be aware of:

  • Your stay in Denmark should be longer than three months.
  • You should have a residence or permanent address.
  • If you are a national of an EU Member State, you should have a registration certificate.
  • If you are a national of a country outside the EU, you should have a residency permit. 


You have to order time for (entry) in Borgerservice. Call Borgerservice on telephone 49 28 20 04.

When you come to Borgerservice you have to bring along:

  • Passport.
  • Rental agreement or written statement from your landlord or similar.
  • If you have arrived from another Nordic country, you should also take documentation of your civil registration number from the country you have come from.

If you are a foreign national, you will have to go in person to the municipal service centre: 

Borgerservice, Birkedalsvej 27, 3000 Helsingør.

Nordic nationals 

  • Passport

  • Passport or ID with a picture

  • Employment contract
  • If you have arrived from another Nordic country, you should also take documentation of your civil registration number from the country you have come from.

Nationals of a country outside the EU

  • Passport
  • Residency permit from the Danish Immigration Service (Udlændingestyrelsen) or the Danish Agency for Labour Market and Recruitment (Styrelsen for Fastholdelse og Rekruttering).
  • Rental agreement or written statement from your landlord
  • If you have arrived from another Nordic country, you should also take documentation of your civil registration number from the country you have come from.

There is a resident maximum in Helsingør Municipality. This means that a maximum of two people per room can live in a dwelling. For example, if you have a two-room apartment, a maximum of four people can live at the address.
